The Gaelic Whiskies

Pràban na Linne

In 1976, Sir Iain Noble established the Gaelic Whiskies to help create employment in the Sleat area on Skye. The company has been based at Eilean Iarmain since then, and is now the only whisky company still headquartered in the Scottish Hebrides.

The Gaelic Whiskies are produced by traditional methods and are unchilfiltered, meaning all of the natural ingredients are retained in the whisky, resulting in a smoother, softer flavour.

Our range consists of 3 brands. One malt, Poit Dhubh and 2 blends, Té Bheag and MacNaMara.

Poit Dhubh (pronounced “potch ghoo”) literally meaning black pot, is also the term for an “illicit still”. It is bottled at 8, 12 and 21 years old and has a soft graceful flavour and a varying balance of sweetness and peatiness depending on age.

Té Bheag, pronounced “chey vek”, means “the little lady”, and also “a wee dram” in colloquial Gaelic. Té Bheag has a high malt content resulting in a smooth, rich finish.

MacNaMara, literally “Son of the Sea” is a lighter blend available in two versions – the original blend and a Rum Finish variety which has been aged for a further 12 months in Guyanan Rum casks.

Come and visit us while staying at Eilean Iarmain, and enjoy a free tasting of our whiskies. All our brands are all available to buy at our shop, along with other goodies including whisky glasses and handmade whisky chocolates. We are situated just beyond the Hotel, next to the tweed and wool shop. Our opening times and further information about our whiskies can be found on the Gaelic Whisky website.
